The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 7 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,246,766. This is an overall increase of 43,800 against the figure released on Friday, of which 4,827 have been registered in the past 24 hours. It was a public holiday in Spain on Monday and the health ministry did not release figures.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 13,738 over Thursday, of which 8,119 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen another 42 points to 290.10 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 248.18 and Thursday 234.03. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 138. It is at its highest in Navarra at 881. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 498.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 498.10 (previously 412.10)
  • 12-19 years – 161.62 (133.64)
  • 20-29 years – 229.82 (191.70)
  • 30-39 years – 300.45 (254.69)
  • 40-49 years – 351.58 (299.36)
  • 50-59 years – 257.72 (220.08)
  • 60-69 years – 299.55 (253.65)
  • 70-79 years – 188.81 (179.97)
  • Aged 80 and over – 131.51 (125.23)

There have now been 137.657 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,246,766. The figure for the past 7 days is 76,018

There are currently 5,067 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 4,262), representing a 4.07% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (3.42%). 948 are in intensive care (814), representing 10.29% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (8.84%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 7 Dec is now 88,237 – an increase of 78 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 4,827 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Tuesday 7 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,206 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 712)
  • 812 in Catalonia (348)
  • 504 in Castilla y León (372)
  • 413 in Navarra (881)
  • 327 in Asturias (363)
  • 297 in the Canary Islands (220)
  • 257 in Galicia (330)
  • 239 in Madrid (174)
  • 221 in Aragón (554)
  • 104 in Cantabria (255)
  • 101 in Extremadura (138)
  • 93 in Murcia (286)
  • 84 in La Rioja (292)
  • 61 in Andalusia (136)
  • 48 in the Balearic Islands (339)
  • 31 in the Valencia Region (319)
  • 5 in Castilla La Mancha (147)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 2 December) show that Spain has administered 77,157,350 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,655,150 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.4% of the total population. A further 5,499,256 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
