CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 18 November for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,074,027. This is an overall increase of 6,315 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 3,932 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 6,667 over Tuesday, of which 3,586 were registered in 24 hours.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen eight points to 104.29 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – the first time it has been over 100 since September. On Wednesday it was 96.12 and Tuesday 88.65. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 54. It is at its highest in Navarra at 278. It is also over 200 in the Basque Country. The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 153. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:
- Aged 11 and under – 153.95 (previously 141.08)
- 12-19 years – 56.42 (52.13)
- 20-29 years – 84.39 (77.80)
- 30-39 years – 109.14 (101.71)
- 40-49 years – 123.09 (113.14)
- 50-59 years – 93.44 (85.71)
- 60-69 years – 100.08 (91.62)
- 70-79 years – 95.15 (88.66)
- Aged 80 and over – 74.98 (71.52)
There have now been 49,485 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,074,027. The figure for the past 7 days is 29,311.
There are currently 2,308 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,260), representing a 1.86% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.82%). 457 are in intensive care (447), representing 5.0% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (4.90%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 18 Nov is now 87,804 – an increase of 29 since Wednesday.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 3,932 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Thursday 18 Nov, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 656 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 221)
- 639 in Catalonia (144)
- 608 in Madrid (86)
- 341 in Aragón (167)
- 313 in Castilla y León (105)
- 263 in Navarra (278)
- 243 in the Canary Islands (110)
- 149 in Galicia (66)
- 147 in Murcia (95)
- 118 in Andalusia (56)
- 109 in the Valencia Region (106)
- 90 in the Balearic Islands (143)
- 84 in Asturias (54)
- 71 in Extremadura (55)
- 55 in Cantabria (75)
- 29 in La Rioja (129)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Tuesday 16 November) show that Spain has administered 74,168,369 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,487,833 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.0% of the total population.
