CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 24 November for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,111,842. This is an overall increase of 8,527 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 5,219 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 6,777 over Monday, of which 4,747 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen nine more points to 148.84 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 139.10 and Monday 132.19. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 67. It is at its highest in Navarra at 428. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 233.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 233.00 (previously 215.27)
  • 12-19 years – 77.12 (71.18)
  • 20-29 years – 113.50 (107.55)
  • 30-39 years – 153.49 (145.14)
  • 40-49 years – 175.66 (164.32)
  • 50-59 years – 134.86 (126.90)
  • 60-69 years – 147.54 (137.57)
  • 70-79 years – 129.52 (121.51)
  • Aged 80 and over – 94.49 (89.91)

There have now been 70,625 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,111,842. The figure for the past 7 days is 40,712

There are currently 3,172 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 3,004), representing a 2.56% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (2.42%). 562 are in intensive care (547), representing 6.13% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (5.97%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 24 Nov is now 87,904 – an increase of 38 since Tuesday.

Of the 5,219 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Wednesday 24 Nov, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 918 in Catalonia (current incidence rate: 198)
  • 797 in the Basque Country (332)
  • 777 in Madrid (114)
  • 463 in Castilla y León (174)
  • 441 in Aragón (245)
  • 321 in Navarra (428)
  • 285 in the Canary Islands (143)
  • 282 in Galicia (120)
  • 245 in the Valencia Region (150)
  • 180 in Murcia (151)
  • 128 in Andalusia (75)
  • 111 in Asturias (89)
  • 92 in the Balearic Islands (198)
  • 66 in Extremadura (67)
  • 49 in Cantabria (109)
  • 30 in La Rioja (169)
  • 17 in Castilla La Mancha (85)
  • in Ceuta (72)
  • 13 in Melilla (118)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Tuesday 23 November) show that Spain has administered 75,377,077 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,567,042 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.2% of the total population.
