‘Botellon’ street drinking parties on the decline, but some incivility remains

The recent weekend ‘botellones’ (street drinking parties) on the Sitges beach, breakwaters and promenade have been less crowded than in past weeks, although the nights have still seen some uncivil behaviour of a ‘minor’ nature. There have also been crowds of people in the Carrer Joan Tarrida and Carrer Primer de Maig, but without any public order issues at all.

The re-opening of outdoor spaces for nightlife and the end of the summer season are the two main reasons for the decline in the ‘botellones’.

Last weekend, La Ribera beach saw reduced crowds of young people in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, with most staying on the promenade and without any problems in behaviour, despite the Mossos d’Esquadra and the local police having ended their special summer security patrols.

There was incivility, however, among small groups. Incidents included a brawl, throwing security barriers on the train track in the Aiguadolç area, as well as minor damage to the Fragata.
