CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 2 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,502,983. This is an overall increase of 55,939 against the figure released on Friday, of which 5,112 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Friday had seen an overall increase of 24,753 over Thursday, of which 12,989 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has fallen by 14 points to 673.52 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 687.30 and Thursday 696.31.

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 586 (yesterday 546)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,516 (1,524)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,626 (1,653)
  • Aged 30-39 – 818 (817)
  • Aged 40-49 – 448 (434)
  • Aged 50-59 – 358 (339)
  • Agend 60-69 – 335 (322)
  • Aged 70-79 – 221 (199)
  • Over 80 – 298 (276)

There have now been 319,591 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,502,983. The figure for the past 7 days is 138,496

There are currently 10,578 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (9,825 on Friday), of which 1,856 are in intensive care (1,698 on Friday) – a 20% increase in one week. This represents 20.02% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (18.31% on Friday). It is now at 47% in Catalonia.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 2 Aug is 81,643 – an increase of 157 since Friday, the highest figure for a weekend period since the start of April.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 5,112 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 2 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 757 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 1,776)
  • 713 in the Basque Country (1,215)
  • 679 in Madrid (3,736)
  • 499 in the Canary Islands (794)
  • 465 in Castilla y León (1,124)
  • 378 in Galicia (716)
  • 284 in Aragón (771)
  • 278 in Navarra (381)
  • 232 in Extremadura (442)
  • 163 in Andalusia (674)
  • 158 in Asturias (347)
  • 147 in Cantabria (260)
  • 118 in the Balearic Islands (0) – no update Friday
  • 89 in Murcia (371)
  • 70 in La Rioja (171)
  • 34 in the Valencia Region (142)
  • 19 in Castilla La Mancha (41) 
  • 18 in Ceuta (12)
  • 11 in Melilla (16)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 2 Aug) show that Spain has administered 56,795,869 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 32,169,472 people have now received at least one jab, representing 67.8% of the total population. 27,262,062 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 57.5% of the total population.
