La Liga requests ‘El Clásico’ is moved to Madrid’s stadium on 26 Oct

La Liga has asked the Spanish Football Federation’s Competition Committee to move the FC Barcelona-Real Madrid match on 26 October, currently scheduled to be held at Camp Nou, to Real Madrid’s stadium, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

The committee will announce its decision in the coming days. If the committee accepts the proposal, the second La Liga fixture between the two sides scheduled for 1 March 2020 will, in turn, be moved to Camp Nou.

A mass protest organised by Tsunami Democràtic is set to be held on 26 October in Barcelona to again contest Monday’s verdict on the Catalan Trial, in which 9 of the jailed leaders behind the 1 October referendum in 2017 were sentenced to lengthy jail sentences.

FC Barcelona commented on the situation themselves, expressing that ‘prison is not the solution’.

They said that it was ‘more important than ever’ that political figures ‘lead a process of dialogue and negotiation to resolve the conflict, and that they grant the freedom of the condemned civil and political leaders.’

According to media reports, both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid reject the proposal to move the game on 26 October.
