New Year’s Eve was quiet in Sitges – but four vehicles had windows smashed

A New Year’s Eve spent in semi-confinement due to the Covid restrictions resulted in some minor incidents in Sitges, including four vehicles having their windows smashed. The local establishments complied with both the time and capacity restrictions, and only in a few cases were people still seen out and about for a short time after 1am.

The damage to four vehicles was the worst occurrence on New Year’s Eve, where once again vandals targeted cars parked on public roads. This is in addition to the vandalism from groups of youths in recent months that has led to various police actions.

Another parked vehicle was also damaged due to a collision caused by a driver. There were no injuries, but the perpetrator tested positive for alcohol when the local police arrived.

Police officers also had to attend an incident in Can Robert Park, after four youths started a bonfire. It was extinguished by the police, but the young men had already fled when they arrived.

The local police also visited three separate homes following complaints from neighbours about the noise level at private parties. With the Covid restrictions of a curfew between 1am and 6am, many people opted to have parties in private homes.
