CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 30 Sept for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,959,091. This is an overall increase of 2,400 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 1,124 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 2,761 over Tuesday, of which 1,246 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen one point to 59.02 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Wednesday it was 60.60 and Tuesday 62.58. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 17. It is at its highest in Cantabria at 89. See below for the incidence rate for each region.
There have now been 28,006 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,959,091. The figure for the past 7 days is 12,392.
There are currently 2,516 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,616), representing a 2.08% occupation of hospital beds across Spain. 703 are in intensive are (731), representing 7.76% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (8.07%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 30 Sept is now 86,415 – an increase of 18 since Wednesday.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 1,124 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Thursday 30 Sept, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 263 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 64)
- 199 in Catalonia (79)
- 102 in Aragón (81)
- 95 in the Canary Islands (55)
- 85 in the Basque Country (68)
- 67 in Castilla y León (39)
- 60 in Andalusia (50)
- 51 in Murcia (76)
- 37 in Cantabria (89)
- 33 in the Balearic Islands (81)
- 31 in the Valencia Region (46)
- 20 in La Rioja (50)
- 25 in Extremadura (52)
- 18 in Navarra (45)
- 15 in Asturias (17)
- 12 in Galicia (29)
- 2 in Castilla La Mancha (61)
- 4 in Ceuta (96)
- 5 in Melilla (136)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 29 September) show that Spain has administered 70,083,821 of the total population. 36,613,575 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 77.2% of the total population.
