Spanish police have arrested a fugitive in Valencia who is wanted in Germany over an attempted murder in which a man was repeatedly shot with a machine gun.
The suspect was detained by Spain’s National Police following a joint investigation with Europol and German police in Delmenhorst. He was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) issued by the German authorities and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
The case relates to a shooting in Delmenhorst in September 2025, when the victim was attacked after leaving a hospitality establishment alone.
According to investigators, the arrested man and three alleged accomplices had planned the attack in advance, with each assigned a specific role. The fugitive is suspected of having followed and monitored the victim ahead of the planned killing.
During the attack, one of those involved allegedly opened fire with a machine gun, shooting the victim numerous times before the assailants fled the scene.
The victim was left seriously wounded but survived following the rapid intervention of emergency medical services. Police said he suffered significant lasting injuries as a result of the shooting.
Suspects went into hiding after shooting
Following the attempted murder, the alleged perpetrators fled to different locations and took measures to avoid detection, including isolating themselves and refraining from maintaining contact with each other.
As the German investigation progressed, authorities established that two of the suspects may have been hiding in Spain.
A joint investigation was subsequently launched involving Spain’s National Police and police in Delmenhorst, coordinated by Europol and with the involvement of the SIRENE office, which facilitates cooperation between European authorities in cases involving cross-border alerts.
Investigators eventually established that one of the wanted men was believed to be hiding in Valencia.
Spanish police mounted an operation after identifying his suspected whereabouts and subsequently located and arrested him.
Officers later searched two properties where the fugitive had allegedly been staying.
Police seized three loaded handguns which they said were ready to be fired, together with electronic devices and an unspecified amount of cash.
