CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 9 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,937,192. This is an overall increase of 21,879 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 10,787 have occurred in the past 24 hours. 

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 17,317 over Wednesday, of which 9,473 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has jumped another 39 points to 316.17 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – still over the ‘extreme risk’ level. On Thursday it was 277.90 and Wednesday 252.16. 

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

• Under 11 – 140.35 
• Aged 12-19 – 891.18 
• Aged 20-29 – 1,047.28
• Aged 30-39 – 392.82 
• Aged 40-49 – 193.40 
• Aged 50-59 – 107.15 
• Agend 60-69 – 95.32
• Aged 70-79 – 37.78
• Over 80 – 45.38

There have now been 150,027 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,937,192. The figure for the past 7 days is 94,642. 

There are currently 3,121 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (2,829 yesterday), of which 627 are in intensive care (598 yesterday). This represents 6.88% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 9 July is 81,003 – an increase of 6 since Thursday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 10,787 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 9 July, the numbers per region are as follows:

• 3,041 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 1,786)
• 1,660 in Castilla y León (1,755)
• 1,580 in Madrid (1,417)
• 756 in Aragón (726)
• 611 in Asturias (475)
• 606 in the Basque Country (553)
• 523 in the Canary Islands (506)
• 414 in Andalusia (402)
• 358 in Cantabria (217)
• 333 in Galicia (294)
• 272 in Navarra (256)
• 247 in Extremadura (272)
• 160 in Murcia (192)
• 112 in the Balearic Islands (134)
• 74 in La Rioja (70)
• 22 in Castilla La Mancha (19) 
• 0 in the Valencia Region (391) – no update today
• 10 in Ceuta (5)
• 8 in Melilla (3)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 9 July) show that Spain has received 51,314,332 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 46,612,489 jabs have been administered. 27,534,723 people have now received at least one jab, representing 58.0% of the total population. 20,999,346 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 44.3% of the total population.
