Charity race in Sitges to raise awareness of PKU

The charity race to raise awareness of PKU (Phenylketonuria) – a rare inherited disorder that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the body – takes place in Sitges this Sunday, from 10 am, with the aim of raising funds for the research of a biosensor for affected children.

The eighth edition presents an itinerary that will run through the streets of Sitges, starting and ending at the Jardins de Terramar. Those participating in the race can do so by running or walking.

The participants will cover 5 kilometres around the park, with the aim of obtaining funding for the project being carried out by Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, based on the development of a biosensor that measures blood levels at home in children with metabolic disorders, and thus improve their control.

Apart from the race, the special day offers a programme with music, activities and raffles. It costs €14 per participant, although donations are also accepted. Both registrations and donations must be made through the website sitgescorreperells.org.
