The Stämpfli Foundation in Sitges presents 21 recent paintings by Peter Stämpfli

The Stämpfli Foundation in Sitges has opened a new exhibition and presentation of 21 recent paintings by the Swiss artist Peter Stämpfli.

The exhibition is called Vibrances and can be seen until 24 September. It is accompanied by a display of 30 works by other artists.

The 21 medium-sized works exhibited in Vibrances – a word that in French defines a photographic effect of colour saturation – are made with black acrylic paint on white Vélin d’Arches paper, made by Stämpfli between 2010 and 2016 and which can be seen for the first time in Catalonia.

The works show a radical change after a period of full of colour from the artist. The contrast between the wider forms, the sinuosity and intermittency of the fine and short strokes, convey a sense of movement, so that each work reflects a snapshot of the deformation or tension produced by a recent vibration.

In addition to this new exhibition, rooms 1 and 2 have updated their image with around 30 works from the Foundation’s collection. Room 1 shows a set of proposals made by 13 artists such as Henri Cueco, Gérard Fromanger, Peter Klasen, Jacques Monory, Bernard Rancillac or Jan Voss, who were part of Narrative Figuration between the late 1950s and early 1960s. The other four artists, Christian Jaccard, Peter Knapp, Jean Le Gac and Claude Viallat, represent an example of the creative capacity of the chosen artistic medium.

Room 2 is made up of works by 17 artists, among whom we find Jean-Jacques Lebel, Olivier Mosset, Jean-Michel Sannejouand, Pierre Tilman, Gérard Titus-Carmel, Jacques Villegé, Mark Brusse, Tom Carr, Marco Del Re, Antonio Seguí, Kim Tschang-Yeul or Vladimir Velickovic, who led a renewal of geometric abstraction, or who chose to focus their works on minimalism, conceptual art, kinetic art or neo-avant-garde.

The Fundació Sämpfli – Art Contemporani is in the Plaça de l’Ajuntament, 13, Sitges.
