Sitges municipal kindergarten staff want better employment conditions

Sitges municipal kindergarten workers have denounced the employment conditions that they have been working under for many years, and consider them to be increasingly unbearable following the council’s publication of the set of clauses for tender for the next two years.

In order to express their dissatisfaction with the set of clauses and ask for solutions, the workers went to the last Municipal Plenary session, and spoke of the need for a review and modifications, as they claim the clauses contain a series of ‘errors and shortcomings’.

The staff of Cercolet and Moixiganga kindergartens complain that the new tender terms are poorly designed, since they fail to take into account the economic benefit derived from the exploitation of the service provided by the Municipal Children’s Homes.

However, one of the most serious concerns regarding the new terms is that of wage differences. The workers consider that they suffer from an important ‘comparative grievance’.

They state that there are currently differences of 200-300 euros in wages for the same function, and that this is contributing to the increase in the wage gap in a sector that is entirely female.

In addition, they complain that wages have been frozen for many years, and that the new terms and conditions do not account for the 5.5% increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage due to take effect in 2023.
