Sitges Town Council has celebrated the International Day against Climate Change (IDCC) by strengthening its commitment to renewable energies and, specifically, solar energy.
Every 24 October, IDCC is celebrated, an event created with the aim of raising awareness among companies, governments and citizens of the devastating effects of global warming.
This Wednesday’s Municipal Plenum also saw final approval of the municipal ordinance to facilitate the installation of solar panels on buildings in the town.
In addition, the roof of the Esteve Barrachina School (pictured) already has almost all the photovoltaic panels installed to generate green electricity at the school.
The local councillor for ecological transition, Carme Gasulla Blanco, said: ‘We are taking very important steps to equip ourselves with alternative energies to fossil fuels and this is a fundamental step in the fight against climate change. The climate emergency demands an even greater commitment from us and in Sitges we are resolutely going down this path.’
Councilor Gasulla stressed that ‘this government’s commitment to clean energy is absolute and a continuation of the path started in the previous mandate’.
She said that ‘the Sitges Energy Community project must show that from the municipality we are able to generate sustainable changes that improve our immediate environment and contribute to decarbonising the planet’.
