Nine beaches in Sitges have been awarded the renowned Blue Flag distinction, which internationally recognise their quality and services.
The beaches that will display the Blue Flag are Les Botigues, Poble de Garraf, Aiguadolç, Balmins, Sant Sebastià, La Ribera, L’Estanyol, La Barra and Terramar. The beaches of Sitges are also certified with the Biosphere distinction and the two marinas, Port Ginesta and Port de Garraf, will also receive a Blue Flag.
The iconic Blue Flag distinction is one of the world’s most recognised awards for beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained. It is awarded by the International Blue Flag Jury 2022 of the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).
Sitges has become a leader in these distinctions in Catalonia. In total, this year Catalonia has been awarded 96 Blue Flags for beaches (two more than last year) and 24 ports (one more).
