The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 1 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,174,720. This is an overall increase of 10,536 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 6,836 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 10,261 over Monday, of which 6,789 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen another nine points to 217.10 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 208.50 and Monday 199.02. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 101. It is at its highest in Navarra at 622. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 354.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 354.93 (previously 342.94)
  • 12-19 years – 116.26 (111.99)
  • 20-29 years – 165.07 (158.64)
  • 30-39 years – 221.51 (212.71)
  • 40-49 years – 259.51 (249.08)
  • 50-59 years – 194.19 (187.78)
  • 60-69 years – 222.11 (212.46)
  • 70-79 years – 167.57 (164.77)
  • Aged 80 and over – 114.57 (114.18)

There have now been 103,018 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,174,720. The figure for the past 7 days is 57,568

There are currently 3,957 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 3,847), representing a 3.18% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (3.10%). 741 are in intensive care (713), representing 8.07% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (7.76%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 1 Dec is now 88,080 – an increase of 28 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 6,836 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Wednesday 1 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,269 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 521)
  • 1,027 in Madrid (149)
  • 852 in Castilla y León (275)
  • 653 in Aragón (403)
  • 451 in Galicia (221)
  • 406 in Navarra (622)
  • 381 in Murcia (239)
  • 358 in the Canary Islands (185)
  • 320 in the Valencia Region (231)
  • 294 in Asturias (215)
  • 193 in Catalonia (259)
  • 156 in Andalusia (103)
  • 121 in Extremadura (101)
  • 117 in Cantabria (223)
  • 113 in the Balearic Islands (266)
  • 84 in La Rioja (197)
  • 7 in Castilla La Mancha (119)
  • 11 in Ceuta (108)
  • 23 in Melilla (203)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Sunday 28 November) show that Spain has administered 76,123,553 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,586,582 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.2% of the total population. A further 4,649,523 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
