CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 23 November for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,103,315. This is an overall increase of 6,777 against the figure released on Monday, of which 4,747 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 15,875 over Friday, of which 1,987 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen seven more points to 139.10 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 132.19 and Friday 111.95. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 65. It is at its highest in Navarra at 399. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 215.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 215.27 (previously 203.57)
  • 12-19 years – 71.18 (68.51)
  • 20-29 years – 107.55 (103.34)
  • 30-39 years – 145.14 (138.05)
  • 40-49 years – 164.32 (155.91)
  • 50-59 years – 126.90 (119.05)
  • 60-69 years – 137.57 (130.02)
  • 70-79 years – 121.51 (116.14)
  • Aged 80 and over – 89.91 (86.45)

There have now been 66,004 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,103,315. The figure for the past 7 days is 38,620

There are currently 3,004 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,880), the first time it has been over 3,000 since September, representing a 2.42% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (2.33%). 547 are in intensive care (522), representing 5.97% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (5.70%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 23 Nov is now 87,866 – an increase of 34 since Monday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 4,747 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Tuesday 23 Nov, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,116 in Catalonia (current incidence rate: 189)
  • 756 in the Basque Country (307)
  • 636 in Madrid (104)
  • 430 in Castilla y León (160)
  • 330 in Aragón (223)
  • 242 in Navarra (399)
  • 225 in the Canary Islands (136)
  • 181 in Murcia (143)
  • 172 in Galicia (108)
  • 146 in the Balearic Islands (188)
  • 134 in the Valencia Region (137)
  • 105 in Asturias (82)
  • 76 in Andalusia (72)
  • 63 in Extremadura (65)
  • 57 in La Rioja (160)
  • 55 in Cantabria (106)
  • 7 in Castilla La Mancha (81)
  • in Ceuta (67)
  • in Melilla (103)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 18 November) show that Spain has administered 74,683,916 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,519,860 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.1% of the total population.
