CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 22 November for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,096,538. This is an overall increase of 15,875 against the figure released on Friday, of which 1,987 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 6,636 over Thursday, of which 4,114 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen 21 points to 132.19 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 111.95 and Thursday 104.29. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 62. It is at its highest in Navarra at 373. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 203.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 203.57 (previously 166.18)
  • 12-19 years – 68.51 (59.94)
  • 20-29 years – 103.34 (90.36)
  • 30-39 years – 138.05 (117.15)
  • 40-49 years – 155.91 (131.82)
  • 50-59 years – 119.05 (101.23)
  • 60-69 years – 130.02 (107.98)
  • 70-79 years – 116.14 (101.49)
  • Aged 80 and over – 86.45 (77.56)

There have now been 62,724 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,096,538. The figure for the past 7 days is 37,521

There are currently 2,880 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 2,398), representing a 2.33% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.93%). 522 are in intensive care (458), representing 5.70% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (5.02%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 22 Nov is now 87,832 – an increase of 22 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 1,987 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Monday 22 Nov, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 466 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 286)
  • 322 in Catalonia (183)
  • 195 in Navarra (373)
  • 181 in Castilla y León (147)
  • 147 in the Canary Islands (131)
  • 137 in Aragón (208)
  • 100 in Madrid (99)
  • 89 in the Balearic Islands (181)
  • 78 in Galicia (98)
  • 65 in Asturias (74)
  • 59 in Cantabria (100)
  • 54 in Murcia (133)
  • 34 in Andalusia (70)
  • 29 in Extremadura (62)
  • 10 in the Valencia Region (133)
  • 9 in La Rioja (160)
  • 3 in Castilla La Mancha (77)
  • in Ceuta (59)
  • in Melilla (94)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 18 November) show that Spain has administered 74,683,916 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,519,860 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.1% of the total population.
