L’Escola Municipal de Música Montserrat Almirall (EMMMA) has started the 2021-2022 academic year with an increasing range of courses, and with enrolment still possible.
The centre offers courses to learn how to play a wide range of instruments, and with short-term practice sessions focused on guitar or piano as part of an ensemble, as well as the family music programme for babies from 0 to 3 years old.
This academic year there are a wide range of in-person attendance courses, with all the necessary preventive health measures so that students can play music with maximum safety. The main headquarters of the centre, the building of Can Coll, offers eight available classrooms, (four more added this year), and there is also the space that EMMMA has in Esteve Barrachina.
This year there will be more than 150 students, similar to before the pandemic. The increase is in all age groups and instruments, but especially in the enrolment of children. The director of the centre, Pepe Reche, said that ‘families have found that making music is an enriching and safe activity, so we have a waiting list for two of the groups of Family Music (A and B), and also in Awareness and Initiation. At the same time, there are only a few instrument places left’.
According to the school’s director, ‘during the confinement it was shown how necessary the arts and especially music are, and after the hardest moments of the health crisis citizens have been even more eager to learn and to enjoy playing music’.
The instruments that can be learned to play at EMMMA are: violin, viola, cello, guitar and electric guitar, electric bass, piano, drums, different percussion instruments, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, horn, trombone and singing. There are still some places available and voices are still being sought for the adult choir.
The school’s registration is still open. Click here for further details: www.emmsitges.cat/preinscripcio. Or you can also send an email to: info@emmsitges.cat.
