CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 16 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,749,031. This is an overall increase of 3,832 against the figure released on Tuesday, and of which 1,922 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 3,432 over Monday, of which 1,605 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped three more points to 98.78 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – the first time it has fallen below 100 in 10 months. On Tuesday it was 101.39 and Monday 104.56.

The incidence rate is over 100 in just four regions: Andalusia (179), Navarra (110), La Rioja (177) and the Basque Country (131). 

There have now been 48,871 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,749,031. The figure for the past 7 days is 20,446

There are currently 3,089 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 853 are in intensive care. This represents 9.06% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 16 June is 80,615 – an increase of 36 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 1,922 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 16 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 461 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 359)
  • 253 in Catalonia (318)
  • 237 in Andalusia (141)
  • 177 in Castilla y León (154)
  • 166 in the Canary Islands (103)
  • 131 in the Basque Country (133)
  • 91 in Aragón (77)
  • 62 in Extremadura (34)
  • 62 in Navarra (32)
  • 51 in the Valencia Region (31)
  • 48 in Asturias (47)
  • 41 in Murcia (33)
  • 39 in La Rioja (31)
  • 36 in Cantabria (37)
  • 31 in Galicia (27)
  • 28 in the Balearic Islands (21)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (26) 
  • 1 in Ceuta (0)
  • in Melilla (1)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 16 June) show that Spain has received 37,600,188 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 34,224,523 jabs have been administered. 22,048,919 people have now received at least one jab, representing 46.5% of the population. 13,301,010 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 28% of the population.
