CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 7 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,707,523. This is an overall increase of 9,536 against the figure released on Friday, of which 871 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 4,975 over Thursday, of which 2,215 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped by two points to 115.32 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 117.22 and Thursday 118.29.

The incidence rate is at its highest in La Rioja (215), Basque Country (184), Andalusia (186) and Madrid (142). It is under 100 in eight regions: Valencia (40), the Balearic Islands (40), Galicia (52), the Canary Islands (67), Murcia (61), Asturias (70), Extremadura (72) and Cantabria (80).

The incidence rate has risen in seven regions: Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Castilla-LaMancha, Catalonia, Valencia, Navarra and La Rioja.

There have now been 54,721 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,707,523. The figure for the past 7 days is 25,354

There are currently 4,114 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,124 are in intensive care. This represents 11.79% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 7 June is 80,236 – an increase of 40 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 871 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 7 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 169 in the Basque Country (last 24 hour increase was 304)
  • 121 in Catalonia (165)
  • 94 in Madrid (515)
  • 91 in the Canary Islands (128)
  • 86 in Andalusia (295)
  • 64 in Castilla y León (202)
  • 53 in Asturias (52)
  • 39 in Navarra (58)
  • 33 in La Rioja (40)
  • 25 in Extremadura (76)
  • 22 in Galicia (53)
  • 21 in Aragón (152)
  • 17 in the Balearic Islands (15)
  • 14 in Murcia (57) 
  • 9 in Cantabria (38)
  • in the Valencia Region (41)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (13) 
  • 5 in Ceuta (4)
  • in Melilla (7)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 7 June) show that Spain has received 33,129,880 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 30,007,806 jabs have been administered. 19,786,575 people have now received at least one jab, representing 41.7% of the population. 11,002,869 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 23.2% of the population.
