CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 14 May for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,604,799. This is an overall increase of 6,347 against the figure released on Thursday, and of which 3,084 have occurred in the past 24 hours.
Thursday had seen an overall increase of 5,701 cases over Wednesday, of which 2,739 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during this third wave of the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate has dropped another four points to162.03 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 166.32 and Wednesday 173.78.
It remains above the ‘extreme risk’ level in just two regions: the Basque Country (334) and Madrid (256). It is under 100 in seven regions: Valencia (31), the Balearic Islands (49), Murcia (63), Asturias (77), Extremadura (85), the Canary Islands (85) and Galicia (87).
There have now been 76,883 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,604,799. The figure for the past 7 days is 33,257.
There are currently 7,088 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,899 are in intensive care. This represents 19.17% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain.
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths on Friday 14 May is now 79,339 – an increase of 58 since Thursday.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 3,084 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 14 May, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 1,027 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 1,167)
- 368 in the Basque Country (13)
- 331 in Andalusia (238)
- 261 in Castilla y León (200)
- 234 in Aragón (237)
- 149 in Catalonia (184)
- 114 in the Canary Islands (178)
- 91 in Galicia (58)
- 85 in Extremadura (59)
- 81 in the Valencia Region (69)
- 71 in Murcia (44)
- 70 in Navarra (92)
- 52 in Asturias (64)
- 47 in Cantabria (47)
- 40 in Castilla La Mancha (33)
- 36 in La Rioja (35)
- 18 in the Balearic Islands (9)
- 3 in Ceuta (1)
- 6 in Melilla (11)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (up to 14 May) show that Spain has received 23,878,785 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 21,683,707 jabs have been administered. 14,911,306 people have now received at least one jab, representing 31.4% of the population. 6,976,683 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 14.7% of the population.
