CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 3 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,523,310. This is an overall increase of 20,327 against the figure released on Monday, of which 10,206 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Monday had seen an overall increase of 55,939 over Friday, of which 5,112 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has fallen by another 20 points to 653.81 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 673.52 and Friday 687.30.

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 584 (yesterday 586)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,468 (1,516)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,559 (1,626)
  • Aged 30-39 – 784 (818)
  • Aged 40-49 – 435 (448)
  • Aged 50-59 – 354 (358)
  • Agend 60-69 – 327 (335)
  • Aged 70-79 – 221 (221)
  • Over 80 – 297 (298)

There have now been 310,236 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,523,310. The figure for the past 7 days is 133,159

There are currently 10,317 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (10,578 yesterday), of which 1,867 are in intensive care (1,856 yesterday). This represents 20.40% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (20.02% yesterday). It remains at 47% in Catalonia.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 3 Aug is 81,773 – an increase of 130 since Monday, the highest daily increase for two months.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 10,206 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 3 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 2,800 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 679)
  • 2,332 in Catalonia (757)
  • 794 in the Basque Country (713)
  • 756 in Castilla y León (465)
  • 602 in the Canary Islands (499)
  • 452 in Galicia (378)
  • 396 in Aragón (284)
  • 320 in Extremadura (232)
  • 314 in Murcia (89)
  • 298 in Andalusia (163)
  • 230 in the Balearic Islands (118)
  • 207 in Navarra (278)
  • 200 in Cantabria (147)
  • 198 in Asturias (158)
  • 169 in the Valencia Region (34)
  • 86 in La Rioja (70)
  • 14 in Castilla La Mancha (19) 
  • 19 in Ceuta (18)
  • 19 in Melilla (11)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 3 Aug) show that Spain has administered 57,141,754 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 32,352,818 people have now received at least one jab, representing 68.2% of the total population. 27,437,503 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 57.8% of the total population.
