The Madrid regional government is to limit social gatherings only to cohabitants between midnight and 6am, as part of new restrictions after the state of alarm ends on Saturday. The new measure will come into effect from 5pm on Saturday.

A state of alarm was imposed on the region of Madrid on Friday 9 October, officially for a period of 15 days. It will expire on the afternoon of Saturday 24 October. The same measures that were in place for a previous partial lockdown in Madrid became enforceable only via the state of alarm, after the region’s authorities had opposed the original measures in court. Any extension to the state of alarm in Madrid would have needed to pass via a vote in the Spanish Congress.

Madrid will also return to partial lockdown restrictions previously imposed on healthcare zones in the region.

The new measures announced on Friday are as follows:

  • Between midnight and 6am, all social or family gatherings will be limited to cohabitants, except for exceptional reasons.
  • Hotels, cinemas, theatres, sports facilities, university residences, parks, gardens, and gaming and betting establishments must close at midnight
  • All non-essential shops must close at 10pm and opening hours must not be before 6am.
  • As a general rule, all capacity at establishments should be at a maximum 50% – except for cinemas, theatres or terraces, which remains at 75%.
  • Mobility restrictions come into effect again from Monday in the following areas: Madrid city, Collado Villalba, Guadarrama, Majadahonda, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Parla, Colmenar Viejo, Morata de Tajuña, Torrejón de Ardoz, El Boalo, Villarejo de Salvanés and Colmenar de Oreja.
