Mango heir’s desperate emergency calls released as investigation into father’s death continues

Audio recordings of the son of Mango founder Isak Andic pleading for help moments after his father plunged to his death in the Montserrat mountains have been made public in Spain.

The recordings, first broadcast by Catalunya Ràdio (link below) and obtained by Spanish media, capture the distress of Jonathan Andic, 45, who is currently under investigation over the death of his billionaire father.

‘I need help. My father has fallen. Please send someone, send an ambulance, send someone, please,’ Jonathan can be heard saying through tears during an emergency call.

Isak Andic, founder of the international fashion chain Mango and one of Spain’s richest businessmen, died aged 71 after falling around 100 metres from a cliff while hiking with his son near Montserrat, outside Barcelona, on 14 December 2024. The route the pair had been following has been described as an easy trail near the municipality of Collbató.

In the recordings, Jonathan speaks with several emergency responders, including a 112 operator, a firefighter and a nurse travelling to the scene.

Throughout the calls, he can be heard crying and repeatedly asking for assistance.

‘I need help. I need help. My father has fallen. Ah, we’re in Collbató. Yes, he’s fallen,’ he says.

When asked whether his father had slipped or tripped, Jonathan replies: ‘I think he’s fallen down a ravine, please send someone, send an ambulance, send someone, please.’

In another exchange, after being asked whether he could see his father, he answers: ‘I can’t see him; he’s fallen down the ravine.’

A nurse identified as Anna attempts to calm him as emergency teams make their way to the location.

‘What’s your name?’ she asks.

‘Jonathan,’ he replies.

When she explains that rescuers need to locate him, Jonathan says: ‘The problem is, I don’t know where he is.’

‘Don’t worry, we’ll look for him,’ the nurse responds, before Jonathan is heard crying out ‘Old man’ — a familiar term he reportedly used when referring to his father.

The call, which lasted around three minutes before Jonathan was transferred to the local fire service, has resurfaced as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding Isak Andic’s death.

The case was initially treated as a tragic accident. However, after a lengthy investigation by the Catalan police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, a judge in Martorell formally named Jonathan Andic as a suspect in May. Investigators are examining evidence they believe points to significant family tensions and possible financial motives.

Court proceedings have heard that Jonathan allegedly waited nearly five minutes after the fall before contacting anyone, first calling Isak Andic’s partner, Estefania Knuth. Emergency services were reportedly alerted almost eight minutes after the fatal incident.

Police have also highlighted messages exchanged between father and son in the months before Isak Andic’s death.

According to investigators, Jonathan wrote in July 2024: ‘It doesn’t surprise me that you thought I was capable of killing you.’

In another message from the same month, he allegedly said: ‘I understand now that it was impossible to repair our relationship; I’m not surprised that the rope finally snapped.’

Reports in Spain have also claimed Jonathan visited the location where his father later died on several occasions before the fatal incident, including a trip just four days beforehand.

Following his arrest on 19 May, Jonathan Andic was released after posting bail reportedly exceeding one million dollars. A judge also confiscated his passport and ordered him to appear in court on a weekly basis amid concerns he could leave Spain.

Jonathan has consistently denied any involvement in his father’s death. ALSO READ: Son of Mango founder denies involvement in father’s death after arrest.

Last month he temporarily stepped aside from his role as vice-chairman of Mango, saying he needed to devote his full attention to defending himself against what he described as ‘the gravest, most unjust and unfounded accusation that can be levelled against a person’.

In a separate open letter to employees, he described the allegations against him as ‘serious, unjust and unfounded’ and said he would focus on his legal defence while the investigation continues.
