Police operation in Rocamar neighbourhood against alleged jihadist terrorism

The Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, and Spain’s Guardia Civil have arrested a person in the neighbourhood of Rocamar, which is in the municipality of Sant Pere de Ribes, as part of a joint police operation against alleged jihadist terrorism.

Just after 7am on Tuesday, the police carried out raids and searches in a property on Carrer Mònaco in Rocamar, in addition to other actions in Rubí (Vallès Occidental), Martorell (Baix Llobregat) and the city of Mérida, in Extremadura.

The police operation saw at least four arrests, including that of Rocamar. Another person was arrested in Martorell and one person had already been transferred to the prison of Can Brians. In Mérida a fourth person had been arrested. The case is being investigated by the central court number 6 of Spain’s National Court and is under secrecy.

The Mossos deployed agents from its General Information Office, TEDAX (deactivation of explosives squad), the GEI, as well as a canine and scientific unit.

At the Rocamar property on the Carrer Mònaco, the police entered the building by breaking down the front door and without using any firearms. The Special Intervention Group moved in to secure the premises and collect evidence,

At the same time, a team from the Mossos travelled to the city of Mérida to participate in the action being carried out there in coordination with agents from the city’s security forces.
