Sitges Town Council to subsidise installation of solar panels

Sitges Town Council has started the application process of awarding subsidies for the installation of self-consumption solar panels on private buildings.

The new measures are within the Ordinance ‘for the promotion of self-consumption installations with photovoltaic energy’, which is managed by councillor Carme Gasulla.

The allowances are applied to various taxes, both for individuals and companies. In the construction tax, families who install solar panels can receive grants that cover up to 95% of the tax payment. In Real Estate Tax, the bonuses range from 50% for a maximum of five years, to a maximum 30% of the installation cost. Discounts on Economic Activity Tax (IAE) are 50% for four years. There is also a 60% reduction in the cost of the license fee for ‘verification of reported activities’.

Councilor Gasulla stressed that ‘it is very important that citizens have clear instruments in order to opt for solar energy’, adding that ‘the fiscal incentives we offer can be decisive in adding many more people to the fight against the climate emergency’.

The council has set up a specific portal to apply for grants to install solar panels, and further information can be found here: www.sitges.cat/serveis/sostenibilitat/oficina-energia. Face-to-face appointments or telephone consultations are also available.
