There’s no better way to enjoy a traditional Catalan calçotada than among the vineyards at Mas Rabell de Fontenac – an idyllic enclave in the heart of Penedès. The 14th century farmhouse is located in a magical and rustic setting overlooking a sea of vineyards – a perfect plan to spend a day surrounded by nature, savouring the best seasonal gastronomy of Catalonia accompanied by superb Torres Wines.
The calçotadas take place on Saturday 24 February and Saturday 2 March at the rustic, magical Mas Rabell, just a short distance from the Familia Torres winery in Penedès, and exquisitely restored and converted into a restaurant where all kinds of events can be celebrated.
Located in the municipality of Sant Martí Sarroca in the heart of the wine region, its traditional cuisine with avant-garde touches make the restaurant a very elegant and welcoming place, and only about an hour’s drive from Barcelona.
The full menu includes calçots with Romesco sauce as a first course, followed by grilled meat and side dishes of roast pepper, grilled artichoke, baked potatoes and green salad, followed by a ‘Crema Catalana’ foam dessert with manadrin sorbet.
There’s also a children’s menu of pasta with tomato sauce, butiffara sausage with potatoes and ice-cream.
The selection from the cellar includes Casals Vermouth, Clos Ancestral white, Jean Leon 3055 Rosé, Clos Ancestral red and Floralis Moscatel.
The Masia Mas Rabell de Fontenac is located at Hostalets i Can Lleó, 08731 Sant Martí Sarroca – Penedès (Barcelona). The calçotadas take place on Saturdays 17 and 24 February, and Saturday 2 March.
