Sitges Town Council and Swimming Club accuse each other of owing money

The serious economic crisis that Club Natació Sitges has been going through since 2010, when it had a mortgage debt of €4.1 million, has brought it to the brink of extinction.

The creation of a consortium, in which the consortium itself assumed the mortgage debt and in which the club provided the facilities, entailed a series of obligations on the part of both parties, and which has ended up in dispute, in which the accusations between the two parties have not ceased.

The Sitges Town Council recently organised a meeting in the Mercat Vell building to explain the situation of the consortium with Sitges Swimming Club. During the session, the council presented the chronology of how the events have happened up to the present. This version, however, differs in many aspects from the arguments provided by the previous Natació board of directors.

One of the main reasons for the conflict is the dissolution of the consortium that the administration and the sports organisation created in 2011, and that should have been liquidated by law in 2016.

The local council considers that Natació owes half of the €5.1 million contributed to cover the mortgage debt, but from the club they claim that their own contribution is in terms of equipment, and that this, as indicated by a recent appraisal, has been valued at €5.6 million.
