Since 26 September, the Catalan Health Department (Salut) has started the traditional autumn vaccination campaign for the 2023-24 season, with a joint vaccination jab against flu and Covid-19 for the most vulnerable population.
It is intended for people who live in homes for the elderly, those who receive home care and other vulnerable people, with the aim of protecting them. They will be able to receive the vaccine if there has been an interval of a minimum of three months since the last dose or since the last infection.
The Catalan Minister of Health, Manel Balcells, said that ‘the objective is for as many people as possible to be vaccinated, and also for professionals, from the entire health and social system, because they are their caretakers’.
The objective of the health ministry is to reach 75% of the population at risk with the single dose against flu and Covid-19. In the case of residences or other institutions, it is the health personnel who travel to the centres who will administer the vaccines to the residents.
