CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 31 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,855,065. This is an overall increase of 7,767 against the figure released on Monday, of which 3,425 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 15,489 over Friday, of which 1,380 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen 8 points to 233.75 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – staying below the extreme risk level for the second consecutive day. On Monday it was 242.18 and Friday 264.13.

The incidence rate has fallen since yesterday for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 277 (previously 240)
  • Aged 12-19 – 461 (417)
  • Aged 20-29 337 (312)
  • Aged 30-39 – 226 (201)
  • Aged 40-49 – 200 (175)
  • Aged 50-59 – 169 (147)
  • Agend 60-69 – 145 (125)
  • Aged 70-79 – 134 (116)
  • Over 80 – 202 (173)

There have now been 110,918 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,855,065. The figure for the past 7 days is 43,172. 

There are currently 6,806 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (7,114 yesterday), of which 1,571 are in intensive are (1,652). This represents 17.39% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (18.04%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 31 Aug is 84,340 – an increase of 194 since Monday. This is the second highest daily increase during this fifth wave.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 3,425 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 31Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 902 in Madrid (last 24hr increase: 206)
  • 651 in Catalonia (219)
  • 318 in the Basque Country (276)
  • 275 in Castilla y León (0) – no update yesterday
  • 245 in Extremadura (126)
  • 140 in Murcia (31)
  • 136 in the Canary Islands (112)
  • 132 in Galicia (104)
  • 101 in Aragón (63)
  • 99 in Andalusia (49)
  • 77 in Navarra (69)
  • 76 in the Valencia Region (6)
  • 66 in Cantabria (0) – no update yesterday
  • 57 in the Balearic Islands (40)
  • 50 in La Rioja (23)
  • 44 in Asturias (32)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (1) 
  • 28 in Ceuta (9)
  • 25 in Melilla (14)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to 30 Aug) show that Spain has administered 65,673,013 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 36,431,416 people have now received at least one jab, representing 76.8% of the total population. 32,996,436 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 69.5% of the total population.
