CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 2 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,687,762. This is an overall increase of 4,984 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 2,346 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 4,388 over Monday, of which 2,151 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped two points to 118.54 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 120.33 and Monday 121.75.

The incidence rate is at its highest in the Basque Country (198), followed by Madrid (165). It is under 100 in eight regions: Valencia (35), the Balearic Islands (38), Galicia (66), the Canary Islands (72), Murcia (69), Asturias (73), Extremadura (77) and Cantabria (85).

There have now been 56,249 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,687,762. The figure for the past 7 days is 25,839

There are currently 4,471 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,236 are in intensive care. This represents 12.85% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 2 June has now surpassed 80,000 – an increase of 66 since Tuesday, making a total of 80,049.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 2,346 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 2 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 701 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 669)
  • 318 in the Basque Country (317)
  • 296 in Andalusia (159)
  • 221 in Castilla y León (274)
  • 152 in Aragón (134)
  • 125 in the Canary Islands (75)
  • 92 in Catalonia (55)
  • 88 in Navarra (65)
  • 53 in La Rioja (43)
  • 52 in Cantabria (33)
  • 51 in Extremadura (43)
  • 46 in Galicia (25)
  • 43 in the Valencia Region (3)
  • 38 in Asturias (74)
  • 33 in Murcia (47) 
  • 19 in the Balearic Islands (19)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (1) 
  • 2 in Ceuta (5)
  • 11 in Melilla (10)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 2 June) show that Spain has received 30,127,690 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 27,607,247 jabs have been administered. 18,426,204 people have now received at least one jab, representing 38.8% of the population. 9,679,817 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 20.4% of the population.
