The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 30 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 6,294,745. This is an overall increase of 161,688 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 74,487 have been registered in the past 24 hours – again new records.

Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 100,760 over Tuesday, of which 59,867 were registered in 24 hours.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen 267 points to 1,775.27 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Wednesday it was 1,508.39 and Tuesday 1,360.62. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Andalusia at 1,079. It is at its highest in Navarra at 3,810. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 20-29, at 2,880. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 1,799.71 (previously 1,580.86)
  • 12-19 years – 1,716.24 (1,422.85)
  • 20-29 years – 2,880.67 (2,484.79)
  • 30-39 years – 2,353.71 (2,033.29)
  • 40-49 years – 2,134.51 (1,797.45)
  • 50-59 years – 1,699.22 (1,408.87)
  • 60-69 years – 1,005.10 (867.47)
  • 70-79 years – 521.00 (417.85)
  • Aged 80 and over – 465.59 (376.07)

There have now been 842,382 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 6,294,745. The figure for the past 7 days is 515,356

There are currently 10,768 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 10,411), representing a 8.81% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (8.51%). 1,803 are in intensive care (1,773), representing 19.42% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (19.10%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 30 Dec is now 89,405 – an increase of 74 since Wednesday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 74,487 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Thursday 30 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 16,840 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 2,426)
  • 10,738 in the Basque Country (2,731)
  • 8,638 in Castilla y León (2,538)
  • 5,915 in Aragón (2,455)
  • 6,751 in Catalonia (1,915)
  • 4,690 in the Canary Islands (1,669)
  • 4,185 in Galicia (1,408)
  • 3,543 in Navarra (3,810)
  • 3,459 in Extremadura (2,158)
  • 2,233 in Asturias (1,484)
  • 2,051 in Murcia (1,447)
  • 1,424 in Cantabria (1,506)
  • 1,153 in the Balearic Islands (1,336)
  • 997 in the Valencia Region (1,170)
  • 886 in La Rioja (2,861)
  • 684 in Andalusia (1,079)
  • 9 in Castilla La Mancha (1,420)
  • 148 in Ceuta (1,245)
  • 143 in Melilla (1,057)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 29 December) show that Spain has administered 83,529,797 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,869,504 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.8% of the total population. A further 13,743,032 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
