Street cleaning in Sitges comes under the spotlight

There have been many recent complaints from residential neighbourhoods and visitors to Sitges who believe that the town is not clean.

With this in mind, the Town Council’s Department of Urban Services, with Cristina Guiu at the head, is taking various measures to address the different issues that affect separate areas of the town.

One of the latest setbacks has been a problem with the electric vehicles that transport the mobile ‘islands’ of garbage containers in the areas of Sant Crispí, Espalter, Rafael Llopart, Illa de Cuba and Sant Bartomeu streets, due to a battery charge process. The council has since said that normality has been restored in some of these points.

Regarding the effectiveness and necessity of these mobile containers, Guiu said: ‘It is not yet time to decide, but to take note and subsequently evaluate the system of mobile platforms. Four years ago we had some needs and now we have others. We must try to adapt to the current situations.’

Previously, cardboard bins had been installed in areas where it had been detected that there was an excess of full bins, and which weren’t enough to absorb all the waste generated by the population of residents, tourists and visitors to Sitges during the summer months.
