Barcelona seal back-to-back La Liga titles with 2-0 clásico win over Real Madrid

FC Barcelona secured back-to-back La Liga titles and the 29th league crown in the club’s history after beating Real Madrid in El Clásico 2-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday evening, with coach Hansi Flick overseeing the victory while mourning the death of his father.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres handed the Catalan side an unassailable 14-point lead over fierce rivals Real Madrid with only three matches left to play in the season.

Barcelona only needed a draw to mathematically clinch the title, which is now their third league triumph in four years.

The match carried an emotional backdrop after Barcelona confirmed, just hours before kickoff, that Flick’s father had died overnight. Players from both clubs wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence before the start of the match. Despite his loss, Flick remained in the dugout and celebrated both goals during the game.

The German coach, who has been in charge for two seasons with two title wins, was thrown up and down into the air by all of his players after the match.

‘I will never forget this day,’ said Flick after the match. ‘It was at tough day for me. My team is fantastic and it is like a family. I am really proud. To do it in this stadium and also in El Clásico …’

Rashford put the home side ahead after just nine minutes with a superbly struck free kick that curled over the wall and into the top corner. Torres doubled Barça’s lead in the 18th minute, finishing from close range after a clever flick by Dani Olmo.

For Madrid — still the most decorated club in Spanish football with 36 league titles — the defeat capped another disappointing campaign without major silverware.

The loss also rounded off a turbulent week for the Spanish giants, following reports of training-ground altercations involving players that resulted in the club fining Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni €500,000 each.
