Coronavirus in Spain (3 Dec) – incidence rate now at 248, and at 412 for under-11

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 3 December for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,202,958. This is an overall increase of 13,738 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 8,119 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 14,500 over Wednesday, of which 8,339 were registered in 24 hours

The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen another 14 points to 248.18 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 234.03 and Wednesday 217.10. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Extremadura at 114. It is at its highest in Navarra at 708. See below for the incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged under 11, at 412.The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 412.10 (previously 390.06)
  • 12-19 years – 133.64 (126.14)
  • 20-29 years – 191.70 (179.53)
  • 30-39 years – 254.69 (239.55)
  • 40-49 years – 299.36 (280.66)
  • 50-59 years – 220.08 (208.12)
  • 60-69 years – 253.65 (240.02)
  • 70-79 years – 179.97 (176.06)
  • Aged 80 and over – 125.23 (120.36)

There have now been 117,762 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,202,958. The figure for the past 7 days is 66,158

There are currently 4,262 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 4,093), representing a 3.42% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (3.29%). 814 are in intensive care (772), representing 8.84% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (8.39%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 3 Dec is now 88,159 – an increase of 37 since Thursday.

Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate

Of the 8,119 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Friday 3 Dec, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,604 in the Basque Country (current incidence rate: 597)
  • 1,064 in Madrid (168)
  • 942 in Castilla y León (320)
  • 733 in Aragón (469)
  • 548 in Galicia (262)
  • 501 in Navarra (708)
  • 464 in the Canary Islands (205)
  • 421 in Catalonia (297)
  • 379 in the Valencia Region (266)
  • 335 in Murcia (264)
  • 322 in Asturias (261)
  • 200 in Andalusia (117)
  • 175 in Cantabria (216)
  • 149 in Extremadura (114)
  • 139 in the Balearic Islands (293)
  • 86 in La Rioja (251)
  • 17 in Castilla La Mancha (131)
  • 13 in Ceuta (140)
  • 27 in Melilla (241)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 2 December) show that Spain has administered 77,157,350 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,655,150 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 79.4% of the total population. A further 5,499,256 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
