CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 3 Sept for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,877,755. This is an overall increase of 6,311 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 2,984 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 9,561 over Wednesday, of which 3,316 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen another 12 points to 198.25 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. It is under 200 again for the first time since 2 July. On Thursday it was 210.62 and Wednesday 221.76.

There have now been 94,073 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,877,755. The figure for the past 7 days is 35,878. 

There are currently 6,245 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (6,288 yesterday), of which 1,460 are in intensive are (1,491). This represents 15.95% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (16.29%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 3 Sept is 84,795 – an increase of 155 since Thursday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 2,984 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 3 Sept, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 733 in Madrid (last 24hr increase: 847)
  • 391 in Catalonia (385)
  • 324 in the Basque Country (362)
  • 197 in Aragón (203)
  • 196 in Castilla y León (225)
  • 160 in Extremadura (128)
  • 155 in the Canary Islands (173)
  • 134 in Andalusia (190)
  • 108 in Navarra (101)
  • 107 in Galicia (158)
  • 106 in Murcia (150)
  • 84 in Cantabria (74)
  • 82 in the Valencia Region (96)
  • 77 in the Balearic Islands (67)
  • 58 in Asturias (52)
  • 33 in La Rioja (45)
  • 13 in Castilla La Mancha (22) 
  • 11 in Ceuta (21)
  • 15 in Melilla (17)

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 2 September) show that Spain has administered 66,788,317 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 36,696,877 people have now received at least one jab, representing 77.3% of the total population. 33,940,053 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 71.5% of the total population.
