Police appeal to public in hunt for man suspected of killing his 2-year-old son

The Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, have issued an appeal to the public in their search for a 44 year old man who is suspected of having killed his two year old son on Tuesday evening in a Barcelona hotel.

The Mossos have named the suspect as Martín Ezequiel Álvarez Giaccio and issued a picture of him. The police describe him as being ‘1.78m tall, athletic, olive-skinned, with a shaved head, trimmed beard, and brown eyes’.

He is believed to have fled from the Concordia Hotel, in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona, after allegedly committing the crime at around 10:30pm on Tuesday.

Cadena SER reported that Álvarez Giaccio and his wife were in the middle of a separation and that he had sent her messages saying that she would ‘regret it’.

Investigators believe that his motive was to ‘harm the mother’ of the deceased child, according to the city’s mayor, Ada Colau.

The police urge anyone who may have information on the suspect to call the 112 emergency hotline.
