CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 5 July for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,866,475. This is an overall increase of 32,607 against the figure released on Friday, of which 4,317 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 12,563 over Thursday, of which 6,606 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has jumped another 51 points to 204.16 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 152.82 and Thursday 134.31. The incidence rate is over 150 in 12 regions: Andalusia (191), Asturias (174), Balearic Islands (185), Canary Islands (155), Cantabria (304), Castilla y León (237), Catalonia (439), Valencia (203), Extremadura (150), Navarra (241), La Rioja (153) and the Basque Country (153).

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 100.73 (+14 points)
  • Aged 12-19 – 584.34 (+178)
  • Aged 20-29 – 640.13 (+191)
  • Aged 30-39 – 248.89 (+55)
  • Aged 40-49 – 138.68 (+21)
  • Aged 50-59 – 72.60 (+15)
  • Agend 60-69 – 62.23 (+13)
  • Aged 70-79 – 25.71 (+5)
  • Over 80 – 31.02 (+5)

There have now been 96,874 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,866,475. The figure for the past 7 days is 67,909

There are currently 2,723 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 616 are in intensive care. This represents 6.73% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 5 July is 80,934 – an increase of 23 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 4,317 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 5 July, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,373 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 2,664)
  • 534 in Castilla y León (831)
  • 508 in Navarra (116)
  • 321 in the Basque Country (356)
  • 286 in the Canary Islands (329)
  • 241 in Madrid (514)
  • 204 in Cantabria (207)
  • 186 in Andalusia (325)
  • 161 in Aragón (229)
  • 157 in Asturias (239)
  • 128 in Extremadura (197)
  • 76 in Galicia (167)
  • 62 in La Rioja (41)
  • 33 in the Balearic Islands (70)
  • 31 in Murcia (105)
  • 13 in the Valencia Region (192)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (11) 
  • 2 in Ceuta (6)
  • in Melilla (7)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 5 July) show that Spain has received 47,081,442 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 43,959,621 jabs have been administered. 26,505,676 people have now received at least one jab, representing 55.9% of the population. 19,135,448 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 40.3% of the population.
