CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 28 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,792,642. This is an overall increase of 10,179 against the figure released on Friday, of which 1,632 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 4,924 over Thursday, of which 1,987 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has increased by five points to 100.06 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 95.03 and Thursday 93.19. The incidence rate is over 150 in two regions: Andalusia (164) and Cantabria (160).

There have now been 47,479 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,792,642. The figure for the past 7 days is 24,457

There are currently 2,495 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 644 are in intensive care. This represents 6.92% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 28 June is 80,789 – an increase of 10 since Friday. This is the lowest weekend increase in deaths since 11 August.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 1,632 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 28 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 684 in Catalonia (last 24 hour increase was 255)
  • 141 in the Canary Islands (178)
  • 124 in the Basque Country (186)
  • 115 in Madrid (406)
  • 109 in Cantabria (106)
  • 90 in Andalusia (220)
  • 72 in Castilla y León (108)
  • 64 in the Balearic Islands (36)
  • 48 in Extremadura (65)
  • 47 in Asturias (93)
  • 39 in Galicia (78)
  • 29 in Navarra (51)
  • 28 in Aragón (69)
  • 20 in the Valencia Region (12)
  • 12 in La Rioja (40)
  • 8 in Murcia (58)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (3) 
  • 1 in Ceuta (4)
  • in Melilla (19)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 28 June) show that Spain has received 43,277,742 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 39,914,204 jabs have been administered. 24,792,784 people have now received at least one jab, representing 52.2% of the population. 16,609,913 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 35% of the population.
