CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 9 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,715,454. This is an overall increase of 4,427 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 2,160 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 3,504 over Monday, of which 1,859 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped another two points to 111.91 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 113.45 and Monday 115.32.

The incidence rate is at its highest in La Rioja (202), Andalusia (187) and Basque Country (175). It is under 100 in nine regions: Valencia (39), the Balearic Islands (41), Galicia (48), Murcia (54), Extremadura (68), the Canary Islands (70), Asturias (71), Cantabria (78) and Castilla La Mancha (90).

The incidence rate has risen in Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Navarra.

There have now been 53,101 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,715,454. The figure for the past 7 days is 23,556

There are currently 3,704 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,040 are in intensive care. This represents 10.94% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 9 June is 80,332 – an increase of 23 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 2,160 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 9 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 470 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 470)
  • 317 in Catalonia (338)
  • 225 in Andalusia (153)
  • 191 in the Basque Country (191)
  • 180 in Castilla y León (168)
  • 136 in the Canary Islands (114)
  • 113 in Aragón (76)
  • 80 in Asturias (37)
  • 66 in Extremadura (66)
  • 55 in the Valencia Region (33)
  • 44 in Navarra (44)
  • 40 in La Rioja (39)
  • 32 in Cantabria (28)
  • 29 in Murcia (22) 
  • 28 in Galicia (41)
  • 26 in the Balearic Islands (20)
  • 14 in Castilla La Mancha (5) 
  • 1 in Ceuta (0)
  • 10 in Melilla (14)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 9 June) show that Spain has received 34,715,980 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 31,004,060 jabs have been administered. 20,305,788 people have now received at least one jab, representing 42.8% of the population. 11,552,393 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 24.3% of the population.
