UPDATED REPORT
Less than a week after winning five Latin Grammy awards (see below), Rosalía has now also picked up two main Grammy nominations, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 26 January 2020.
Presented by the USA Recording Academy to recognise achievements in the music industry, Rosalía will compete for Best New Artist and Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album.
Wednesday’s nominations also mean that the rising music star becomes the first best new artist nominee recognised for music recorded entirely in Spanish.
A few days ago the 26-year-old singer from the Catalan town of Sant Esteve Sesrovires saw her album El Mal Querer win Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys (see below).
That made Rosalía the first female solo act to win an award in the album of the year category since Colombian singer Shakira first achieved the feat in 2006.

LATIN GRAMMYS
Rosalía collected five awards at the 2019 Latin Grammys on Thursday 14 November, having been nominated for seven. The ceremony took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Her album El mal querer, through which she rose to fame, won best album of the year, best contemporary pop vocal album, best recording package and best engineered album.
Meanwhile her song Con Altura, a collaboration with Spanish record producer ‘El Guincho,’ picked up best urban song.
At one point in the night, she performed that song, as well as her recent single A Palé.

She was also nominated, but did not win prizes in the categories best pop song for Pienso en tu mirá and best record for Aute couture.

The prizes are the latest in a long list of accolades to take their place in Rosalía’s trophy cabinet this year.
These include two awards for Con Altura at the European MTV awards at the start of November, as well as two at the global MTV awards for the song, which currently has nearly 1.1 billion views on Youtube.
Her first single from the album El mal querer also picked up two awards at last year’s Latin Grammys. Malamente had been released two weeks prior, but was the only song from the album that was up for awards.
She was also ranked fifth in the BBC’s Sound of 2019 rankings in January this year. With the year of Rosalía not yet up, there may yet be more success to come for the Catalan singer.
