CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 15 Sept for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,922,249. This is an overall increase of 3,723 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 1,762 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 3,261 over Monday, of which 1,715 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen another 8 points to 101.55 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 109.38 and Monday 116.13. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Asturias at 35, followed by Valencia (70), the Canary Islands (77), Castilla y León (85), Andalusia (88), Galicia (88), Murcia (97) and La Rioja (99).
There have now been 48,186 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,922,249. The figure for the past 7 days is 18,827.
There are currently 4,425 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 4,459), of which 1,097 are in intensive are (1,136). This represents 12% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (12.41%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 15 Sept is now 85,638 – an increase of 90 since Tuesday.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 1,762 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 15 Sept, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 462 in Madrid (last 24hr increase: 429)
- 278 in Catalonia (345)
- 182 in the Basque Country (195)
- 149 in Castilla y León (91)
- 115 in Andalusia (53)
- 110 in the Canary Islands (101)
- 86 in Aragón (125)
- 77 in the Valencia Region (47)
- 61 in Galicia (32)
- 47 in Murcia (59)
- 44 in the Balearic Islands (33)
- 44 in Navarra (27)
- 43 in Extremadura (65)
- 14 in La Rioja (17)
- 10 in Asturias (15)
- 7 in Castilla La Mancha (7)
- 0 in Cantabria (48) – no update
- 17 in Ceuta (14)
- 16 in Melilla (12)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Tuesday 14 September) show that Spain has administered 68,820,573 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 37,303,202 people have now received at least one jab, representing 78.6% of the total population. 35,571,661 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 75.0% of the total population.
