CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 9 Sept for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,903,021. This is an overall increase of 4,763 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 2,090 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 5,618 over Tuesday, of which 2,741 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen another 10 points to 140.43 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – below the high risk level of 150 for the first time since 1 July. On Wednesday it was 150.37 and Tuesday 160.73.
There have now been 66,633 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,903,021. The figure for the past 7 days is 24,790.
There are currently 5,115 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (5,344 yesterday), of which 1,258 are in intensive are (1,313). This represents 13.73% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (14.36%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 9 Sept is now 85,218 – an increase of 71 since Wednesday.
Increase in infections per region
Of the 2,090 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Thursday 9 Sept, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 556 in Madrid (last 24hr increase: 716)
- 325 in Catalonia (382)
- 219 in the Basque Country (246)
- 139 in the Canary Islands (123)
- 121 in Aragón (175)
- 97 in Galicia (92)
- 91 in Murcia (127)
- 90 in Castilla y León (207)
- 79 in Navarra (53)
- 75 in Andalusia (146)
- 61 in Extremadura (145)
- 59 in the Balearic Islands (63)
- 57 in Cantabria (60)
- 44 in the Valencia Region (70)
- 23 in Asturias (29)
- 15 in Castilla La Mancha (49)
- 15 in La Rioja (18)
- 15 in Ceuta (20)
- 9 in Melilla (20)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 8 September) show that Spain has administered 68,002,439 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 37,067,635 people have now received at least one jab, representing 78.1% of the total population. 34,903,802 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 73.6% of the total population.
