Three arrested in Andalusia over alleged connection to shooting of Vidal-Quadras

Spain’s National Police have arrested three people in Andalusia for their alleged connection to the attempted murder of veteran right-wing politician Alejandro Vidal-Quadras.

The retired politician was shot in the face in Madrid in early November but survived the shooting. The police have been investigating a possible Iran link to the attack, and the case is currently in the hands of the National Court. The court opened proceedings to investigate the events that it believes could constitute a crime of attempted murder of a terrorist nature. ALSO READ: Possible Iran link, after Spanish right-wing politician shot in the face in Madrid.

Spanish media have reported that a man and a woman were arrested in Lanjarón in the province of Granada and another man in Fuengirola (Malaga) for their alleged relationship with the shooting. The person arrested in Fuengirola is reportedly connected to the motorcycle on which the shooter fled. The two men have Spanish nationality, and the woman is British, according to RTVE. None of them are the alleged hitman who shot the veteran politician at point-blank range, according to reports.

Vidal-Quadras is a former president of the Catalan branch of the right-wing People’s Party (PP) before he left to become a founding member of the far-right Vox party.
