CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures
The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 28 October for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 5,008,887. This is an overall increase of 2,212 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 1,241 have been registered in the past 24 hours.
Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 2,532 over Tuesday, of which 1,287 were registered in 24 hours.
The overall incidence rate across Spain has risen slightly to 49.62 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Wednesday it was 49.37 and Tuesday 46.01. The region with the lowest incidence rate is Galicia at 17. It is at its highest in the Basque Country at 79. See below for the incidence rate for each region.
There have now been 23,546 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 5,008,887. The figure for the past 7 days is 11,320.
There are currently 1,647 people hospitalised for Covid-19 in Spain (previously 1,702), representing a 1.34% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (1.38%). 413 are in intensive care (421), representing 4.53% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across Spain (4.62%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 28 Oct is now 87,322 – an increase of 33 since Wednesday.
Increase in infections per region & current incidence rate
Of the 1,241 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours (and current incidence rate) on Thursday 28 Oct, the numbers per region are as follows:
- 297 in Madrid (current incidence rate: 53)
- 170 in Catalonia (61)
- 131 in the Basque Country (79)
- 104 in the Canary Islands (48)
- 88 in Castilla y León (53)
- 82 in the Valencia Region (54)
- 78 in Aragón (66)
- 60 in Murcia (58)
- 49 in Andalusia (33)
- 45 in the Balearic Islands (75)
- 37 in Navarra (74)
- 29 in Asturias (31)
- 24 in Cantabria (45)
- 20 in Galicia (17)
- 9 in Extremadura (29)
- 9 in La Rioja (28)
- 6 in Castilla La Mancha (39)
- 0 in Ceuta (9)
- 3 in Melilla (21)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 27 October) show that Spain has administered 71,779,466 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 37,282,484 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 78.6% of the total population.
