CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 21 June for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,764,651. This is an overall increase of 7,209 against the figure released on Friday, the lowest weekend increase since last July, and of which 831 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 4,214 over Thursday, of which 1,895 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped three more points to 92.46 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 95.91 and Thursday 96,64.

The incidence rate is over 100 in just four regions: Andalusia (173), La Rioja (145), the Basque Country (107) and Navarra (102). 

There have now been 43,871 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,764,651. The figure for the past 7 days is 19,989

There are currently 2,832 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 770 are in intensive care. This represents 8.23% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 21 June is 80,689 – an increase of 37 since Friday.

Two regions (La Rioja and Catalonia), as well as Ceuta and Melilla, have reported no deaths in the past seven days. Four other regions have each reported one death in the past seven days.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 831 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 21 June, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 161 in the Canary Islands (last 24 hour increase was 179)
  • 144 in Catalonia (289)
  • 102 in Madrid (305)
  • 87 in the Basque Country (148)
  • 68 in Cantabria (67)
  • 62 in Andalusia (297)
  • 45 in Asturias (73)
  • 37 in Castilla y León (108)
  • 25 in Aragón (89)
  • 23 in La Rioja (37)
  • 21 in Navarra (47)
  • 19 in Galicia (46)
  • 17 in the Balearic Islands (20)
  • 9 in Murcia (39)
  • 9 in Extremadura (68)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (7) 
  • in the Valencia Region (67)
  • 0 in Ceuta (0)
  • in Melilla (9)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 21 June) show that Spain has received 39,259,752 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 36,357,745 jabs have been administered. 23,200,566 people have now received at least one jab, representing 48.9% of the population. 14,431,683 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 30.4% of the population.
