CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN

Official period of mourning

From today, Wednesday 27 May, Spain officially starts a 10-day mourning period to pay tribute to over 27,000 confirmed deaths from Coronavirus in the country (see most recent figures released on 27 May).

Until 6 June, flags will be flying at half-mast at more than 14,000 public buildings across Spain, as well as on all the navy’s vessels.

The mourning period will end with an official ceremony led by King Felipe VI in remembrance of the victims, and once the country emerges further from its phased de-escalation of lockdown restrictions.

It was announced by the Spanish government’s spokeswoman María Jesús Montero during a press conference on Tuesday.

She said the country would be remembering the ‘men and women whose lives have been suddenly cut short, leaving friends and family in great pain, both from the sudden loss and from the difficult circumstances in which it has occurred’.

Can you please inform me if you know of the date for lifting of lockdown restrictions for Care Homes in the Alicante/Guardamar de Segura towns. There does not seem to be any information published regarding this. If you can help with any information I would be grateful, especially as my husband is in a Care Home in Guardamar. Thank you.
