On 25 February Barcelona’s Maritime Museum inaugurates a new exhibition covering three centuries of Catalonia’s maritime past.
‘Cataluña más allá del mar‘ (‘Catalonia beyond the sea’) covers the period from the 18th to 20th centuries, looking at how – with relatively few natural resources and a reduced demography at the start of the 1700s – Catalonia could, just 100 years or so later, have turned into a Southern European maritime powerhouse.

The exhibition also looks at Catalonia’s key role in developing transatlantic commerce with America.
Some of the museum’s most emblematic pieces will be on display in this exhibition, including historical model boats, paintings, and a model of the port from 1929.
An audioguide available in eight languages is included with the 10€ entry price.
When: 25 February to 31 December
Where: Museu Marítim de Barcelona
