Iberia staff plan to strike on one of busiest weekends of the year

Iberia Airlines’ landing staff at Barcelona’s El Prat airport have called for a strike for the weekend of 27-28 July, one of the most busiest weekends of the year due the number of trips taken by passengers going on summer vacation.

The workers have denounced the ‘lack of dialogue’ from management in the face of the ‘overloading’ of work on the staff of about 2,000 people, as well as the lack of staff to meet the real needs due to the increase in workload.

In addition, they also denounce the ‘systematic breaches’ of the agreements reached last year, which resulted in a four-day strike being called off.

The personnel of Iberia Barcelona manages about 65% of the operations of the El Prat airport, according to union sources.

According to a report by the staff committee, the main problems that have led to the calling of the strike are the lack of stable recruitment, the need to increase the overall number of staff, and the ‘indiscriminate’ use of overtime hours, which staff are forced to fulfil.

‘Last year the company tried to solve these problems, but a year on the issues remain the same, but with the increase of workload compared to last year, and the lack of solutions with regard to the size of the staff,’ the same statement affirms.
